Maintenance of Electric Vehicles

Campuses provide a solid use case for electric vehicle technology. Participation by the education industry in leading practice discovery for wiring practices is limited, however, because front-line electricians are not permitted to participate in standards development processes. Almost all resources for emergent technology standards-setting is allocated to policy and administrative professionals.

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) has opened revisions to NECA 413 Standard for Installing and Maintaining Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.  This standard describes the procedures for installing and maintaining Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.  It includes quality and performance aspects of these installations including performing site assessments. Information related to design and coordinating individual unit installation and fleet/multiple unit installations is included in addition to installer and inspection guidelines and checklists.*

Comments are due August 6th.   You may 0btain an electronic copy from: neis@necanet.org (Order from: Melissa West, (301) 215-4544, melissa.west@necanet.org)   Send your comments to Melissa (with copy to psa@ansi.org).  Note that NECA — like almost all ANSI accredited standards developers — seeks user interest stakeholders on its standards development committee.

All NECA standards are on the standing agenda on our weekly Open Door teleconference – every Wednesday, 11 AM Eastern time to which everyone is welcomed (CLICK HERE for login credentials).   We collaborate closely with IEEE SCC-18 — the IEEE Standards Association committee that coordinates electrical and telecommunication safety concepts with the National Fire Protection Association — and the IEEE Education & Healthcare Facilities Committee.
