Exterior Lighting Networking

We are tracking the acceleration of the geospatial mapping of exterior campus lighting luminaires for security cameras, on-demand multi-level switching, and their use as power sources in exterior central areas of congregation.   We will likely advocate for an expanded discussion about exterior illumination product development that will make campus exterior illumination systems safer, simpler, lower-cost and longer lasting. Lighting for Outdoor Environments

The Illumination Engineering Society is one of the first names in non-profit trade associations whose consensus documents are heavily referenced in design guidelines and construction projects for the US education industry. It has launched a new consensus document intended to link various IES documents together, augmenting them in subject areas not otherwise covered. The IES is seeking subject matter experts to participate in its development.

Campus Outdoor Lighting

Pedestrian pathway lighting on educational campuses are an important element in the physical fabric within the campus and along its perimeter. A conversion from legacy metal halide to LED fixtures is in full swing and, along with it, a new set of engineering challenges. We collaborate with the IEEE Education & Healthcare Facilities Committee to discover and promulgate leading practice for the safety and sustainability of these systems across the full span of their lifecycle.

National Electrical Safety Code

This IEEE "regulatory product" sets the standard of care for construction, operation and maintenance of power and telecommunication infrastructure and overlaps in significant areas with the National Electrical Code, a regulatory product developed by the National Fire Protection Association. IEEE 1366 Guide for Electrical Power Distribution Reliability Indices is a template for exploring performance metrics of large customer-owned power systems.  Respected voices in the IEEE disagree on many concepts that appear in it but, for the moment, it is the most authoritative consensus document produced by the IEEE Standards Association. Its technical specifics may be referenced in power purchasing agreements between universities and public utilities.
