  • Construction Spend
    All day
    2020.08.03

    University of Michigan 1855

We follow the construction spend rate of the US education industry; using the US Census Bureau Construction Spending figures released the first day of every month.  We encourage our colleagues in the education facilities industry to respond to Census Bureau-retained data gathering contractors in order to contribute to the accuracy of the report.

N.B. We have migrated our “Model Building Code” content into to this session starting this month.

  • Who is the “User-Interest”?
    11:00 -12:00
    2020.08.05

    The University of Michigan

Who it is.  Why it matters.

The Standards Michigan platform routinely refers to the “User-Interest” in the global standards system and the dominance of “niche verticals” that determine the cost of education communities for the final fiduciary.  Today at 11 AM/ET we drill deeper into this claim by reviewing the roster of a few technical committees administered by standards setting organizations.  The dominance of every interest group over the user-interest will be in plain sight.  You will also see that the dominance of all other stakeholders over the user-interest is not the fault of the niche verticals.  It is the fault of the user-interest and may be an unresolvable “wicked problem”.

  • Recycling
    11:00 -12:00
    2020.08.06

The Impact of E-Waste / Student Art Guide

Certain requirements must be met for recycling to be economically feasible and environmentally effective. These include an adequate source of recyclates, a system to extract those recyclates from the waste stream, a nearby factory capable of reprocessing the recyclates, and a potential demand for the recycled products. These last two requirements are often overlooked—without both an industrial market for production using the collected materials and a consumer market for the manufactured goods, recycling is incomplete and in fact only “collection”.

Today at 11 AM/E we examine the state of best practice literature – including government regulations — that apply to education communities.

    2020.08.17

“Juvet Time Globe” / Smithsonian Institution

Today wee organize our response to live public consultation notices with fast-approaching deadlines — typically within 30 to 45 days.   The short comment period is permitted in ANSI’s Continuous Maintenance due process platform.  There are less than 30 standards setting organizations whose consensus product suite requires such quick response — and those titles typically involve public safety concepts.

Today at 11 AM/ET.  Use the login credentials at the upper right of our home page.

Faculty and staff in the education industry in all nations provide basic research, application research in energy technologies.  The “cities-within-cities” we call the #SmartCampus” also provide crucibles for new testing new technologies as well as provide energy load for utilities operating under all ownership regimes.
