Built in 1903 the stadium is the oldest reinforced concrete structure dedicated to intercollegiate athletics in the United States.  President Theodore Roosevelt, himself a graduate, convened a meeting of colleges and universities and formed the Intercollegiate Football Conference, the predecessor of the NCAA. The meeting led to the creation of two of the most fundamental aspects of modern American football: standard field dimensions and the legal forward pass.
