The original University of Michigan Standards Advocacy enterprise was able to rationalize the sizing of building power chains in the National Electrical Code (NEC) — not because of excessive energy waste — but because oversized building power chains presented a larger than necessary fire hazard. The success of that collaboration with the University of Houston has inspired other technology committees to revisit wiring design requirements in other parts of the NEC.
