The Society for College and University Planning was founded at the University of Michigan. Established in 1965, SCUP was initiated by a group of higher education professionals, with significant involvement from individuals at the University of Michigan, including Frederick W. Mayer, who served as the University Planner from 1968 to 2003; its founding member and colleague of Mike Anthony, Jack Janveja and others.
