Geoffrey Chaucer is credited by scholars as the primary builder of the Modern English language.   Known as the author of “The Canterbury Tales” Chaucer worked as a bureaucrat, courtier, and diplomat, which exposed him to the courtly style of life that he explores, questions, and mocks in his works.
