September 6 is an “unofficial holiday” celebrating Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (the “906” area code) right around Labor Day every year. Pasties are the classic UP food brought by Cornish miners in the 1800s. One of the most common ways people are told to celebrate 906 Day is simply to eat a pasty, playing Euchre and swimming in Lake Superior. Local shops sell pasties for $9.06.
