College football bowl games originated in 1902 with the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, as part of the Tournament of Roses Parade to boost tourism. The University of Michigan dominated Stanford 49-0, but the lopsided score paused football until 1916, when it became annual—nicknamed "The Granddaddy of Them All." Tonight, Michigan's Big Ten cohort--the Indiana Hoosiers--meet the Oregon Ducks in Atlanta in the Peach Bowl at 7:30 PM EST.

Downtown Ice Arena
The University has been exploring options for its aging Ice Arena (built in 1931) which include renovations coupled with a new off-campus facility. The current arena requires significant upgrades for ADA compliance, structural repairs, windows, roof, and ice mat replacement to serve its users (hockey clubs, figure skating, public skating, etc.). It's funded primarily by student fees, and decisions involve student referendums. So early in the concept phase numbers fly -- recently $50 million.

Athletic programs form a large part of the brand identity and community spirit for most educational institutions. Our focus has been on technology standards that govern the safety, performance and sustainability of these enterprises; electro-technology in particular. Field lighting supports the commercial enterprise but we also advocate #TotalCostofOwnership concepts for the reliability of power systems for video board mass notification and egress.

We examine the proposals for the 2028 National Electrical Safety Code; including our own. Public comment on proposed changes will be received until March 24th. The 2026 National Electrical Code which has recently been released for public use (public input on the 2029 revision will be received until April 9, 2026).
