The Battle of Iwo Jima (19 February – 26 March 1945) was a major battle in which the United States Marine Corps (USMC) and United States Navy (USN) landed on and eventually captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) during World War II. The American invasion, designated Operation Detachment, had the purpose of capturing the island with its two airfields: South Field and Central Field.

February 8, 1933:
The King and Country Debate was a debate on 9 February 1933 at the Oxford Union Society. The motion presented, “This House will under no circumstances fight for its King and country”, passed at 275 votes for the motion and 153 against it. The motion would later be named the Oxford Oath or the Oxford Pledge.
24 February 1969:
In Case 303 U.S. 503 Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District, the United States Supreme Court held that students do not “shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate,” and that school officials may only restrict speech if it materially and substantially disrupts school activities.
