The Berlin Wall, one of the most powerful symbols of the Cold War was destroyed on this day the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 during the Cold War as a way to separate the Soviet controlled East and the Democratic West. The wall made out of concrete and barbed wire stood for nearly 30 years.
