Self-Reliance, et. al

“Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members... Self-reliance is its aversion.” -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

American literature on self-reliance is remarkably thin:

Georgetown University, particularly its Law Center, serves as a key hub in Washington, D.C., producing a disproportionate number of lawyers and regulators who shape federal policy. Located near the Capitol, it attracts ambitious students and boasts over 51,000 alumni, many in high-level government roles.  Its graduates dominate regulatory fields, with significant placements in D.C. (nearly 40% of recent J.D.s).
Georgetown routinely tops lists for “revolving door” professionals cycling between government regulation and lucrative private-sector lobbying or consulting. This ecosystem allows individuals to draft rules as regulators, then profit by navigating them for clients, often facing minimal personal accountability for policy failures that burden ordinary citizens—insulated by elite networks, prestige, and financial security.
