Stamppot
Stamppot is one of the Netherlands’ enduring cold-weather foods: potatoes mashed with vegetables such as kale, endive, sauerkraut or carrots and onions, often served with sausage. Its roots lie in practical household cooking—seasonal ingredients, one pot and enough nourishment for a family. That same simplicity makes stamppot natural student food: inexpensive, forgiving and easily shared. Across generations, it remains less a formal recipe than a familiar Dutch way of gathering around an autumn or winter table.
