“Eternal Father, Strong to Save”

The "Navy Hymn" -- written by William Whiting (1825-1878), an English poet and composer -- was written for a student who was about to travel to America. Whiting sought to provide comfort and assurance of God's protection over the young traveler, drawing upon the biblical themes of God's control over the seas.
