Systeme International d’Unites

The metric system was developed over a period of several decades in the late 18th and early 19th centuries by a group of French scientists and mathematicians, including Jean Baptiste Joseph Delambre, Pierre Simon Laplace, and Adrien-Marie Legendre. The system was officially adopted by France in 1795, during the French Revolution, and has since been adopted by most countries around the world.

The organization primarily responsible for measuring time is the International Bureau of Weights and Measures located in Parc de Saint-Cloud, France. The BIPM oversees the International System of Units  which is the most widely used system for measuring time, as well as other physical quantities such as length, mass, and electric current.
