With emphasis on OB-GYN because educational settlements are where families begin and grow among the young.

Many research universities have large medical research and clinical delivery enterprises that provide significant revenue.   We periodically scan public consultations for literature that sets the standard of care for the facilities and technologies in these enterprises in education communities.

Illumination technologies have had a pattern of consuming about 35 percent of building electrical energy use.  That number has been pressed downward with the expanded application of LED luminaires and occupant responsive controls; much of the transformation hastened by the IEEE, IES and ASHRAE best practice catalogs.

Today we run through the development status of these products with specific interest in exterior illumination best practice.  This topic also is covered in the 4 time monthly meetings of the IEEE Education & Healthcare Facilities Committee.

Reflection on the degree to which large research universities are Non-Government Organizations (Quangos, in the United Kingdom) or Hedge Funds with a side operation in education.

“Mack the Knife” (original German title: “Die Moritat von Mackie Messer”) seems like a jaunty swing tune, especially in Louis Armstrong’s or Bobby Darin’s famous versions, but its lyrics are actually about a charming, elegant, and utterly ruthless gangster/criminal named Macheath (“Mack the Knife”) from Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s 1928 play The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper).

This popular jazz standard disguises the cynical statement about how money, greed, corruption, robbery, and murder are intertwined — and how the biggest crooks wear suits and are celebrated instead of punished. 

Release Calendar 2025

The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index (MCSI) is released twice a month:

1. Preliminary Report – Released mid-month (usually the second Friday of the month).
2. Final Report – Released at the end of the month (usually the fourth Friday of the month).

Both reports are published at 10:00 AM Eastern Time (ET).
