Evensong “Turtle Dove”

Ralph Vaughan Williams arranged the English folk song “The Turtle Dove” in 1919, setting a traditional song of parting, fidelity and promised return. Collected from oral tradition in southern England, its simple farewell becomes something larger in Vaughan Williams’s hands: an expression of distance, memory and enduring affection.
