Chapman University Net Position 2024: $2.279B | Orange County Building Codes and Regulations
Chapman University in Collaboration with the CA Dairy Innovation Center Presents:
Chapman University’s 90-acre campus in Orange, California, blends historic charm with modern innovation, reflecting a design philosophy of accessibility, beauty, and community. The campus, set in the historic Old Towne Orange district, features a mix of Classical Revival and contemporary architecture. Key historic buildings, originally part of Orange Union High School, include Wilkinson Hall (1905), Reeves Hall (1913), Smith Hall (1913), and Memorial Hall (1921), all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These structures, designed by architects like C.B. Bradshaw and Frederick Eley, showcase symmetry and classical elements, with Memorial Hall’s 1,000-seat auditorium being a standout.

Infrastructure supports a vibrant student life, with 175+ student organizations and a 12:1 student-to-faculty ratio. The campus offers 24-hour security, modern dorms, and dining facilities, though weekend dining hours draw some criticism. Recent expansions, like the Fowler School of Engineering’s Swenson Family Hall, and planned updates to the Specific Plan, including increased enrollment and housing, ensure Chapman remains a dynamic, student-focused environment
The University has a strong reputation for research and innovation in many fields related to the prevention of backflow incidents:
Viterbi School of Engineering has a dedicated Environmental Engineering program that focuses on water quality and management. This program has faculty members who are experts in water treatment and distribution systems, including backflow prevention technologies. The school also offers research opportunities for graduate students to work on water-related projects, including those related to backflow prevention.
Keck School of Medicine has a Department of Preventive Medicine that conducts research on environmental health, including waterborne diseases and contamination. This department has published research on the prevention of waterborne disease outbreaks and the importance of backflow prevention measures in protecting public health.
The USC Environmental Health and Safety department is responsible for overseeing the safety and compliance of the university’s facilities, including its water systems. EH&S works closely with the university’s Facilities Management Services to ensure that backflow prevention measures are in place and maintained.
The USC Foundation drafts definitions and specifications covering cross-connection control and the assemblies required for the prevention of backflow.

*The UCD Financial Statements — the simple balance sheet showing assets and liabilities — is not easy to find in it crazily overproduced Finance and Business web page. Perhaps the apparent $1.3B operating loss has since been remediated. The loss may be absorbed into the larger University of California University System which consists of 23 colleges and universities.
