Microgrids for disaster preparedness & recovery

A microgrid is a collection of controllable and physically close generators, managed in careful collaboration with local loads that recalls the smaller neighborhood power systems of Edison's original conception. Application of microgrids to healthcare facility backup power systems was debated in January among experts writing the 2026 National Electrical Code.
