August Sabbatical

We observe academia’s summer hiatus until August 19th when we resume our daily 15:00 sessions on the topic of Data Center standards, regulations and codes.  The front desk at our State Street Office will remain open but our daily colloquia will be replaced with “Evergreen” content dating back to 1993.  See our CALENDAR.

Some jankiness in presentation will likely persist until early September as we upgrade PHP versions, widgets,  and plug-ins to the latest versions of WordPress and Python.  Content updates across all our platforms remains unresolved; described in the link below:

Since 1936 the Brown Jug has been the ancestral trough of generations of University of Michigan students and faculty — notably. Donald Glaser (inventor of the bubble chamber) and Samuel C. C. Ting (Nobel Laureate) whose offices at Randall Laboratory were a 2-minute walk around the corner from The Brown Jug.  As the lore goes, the inspiration happened whilst watching beer bubbles one ordinary TGIF Friday.

The Brown Jug is named after the Michigan vs Minnesota football trophy, which is the oldest in college football.

Strawberry Sipper Water

Illinois Extension

Strawberry sipper water is a flavored water beverage made by combining pureed strawberries with cold water, often enhanced with ice cubes for a refreshing taste. It’s typically prepared by blending fresh or thawed frozen strawberries into a puree, mixing it with water in a pitcher, and adding ice, sometimes with mint leaves frozen in the cubes for extra flavor.

Unlike infused water, where fruit sits in water for hours, strawberry sipper water is more akin to an agua fresca, blending fruit for immediate flavor and a vibrant pink color.  It’s a hydrating, low-calorie drink popular for summer or as a soda alternative, often garnished with fresh strawberries or mint.

World Census of Agriculture

Much like its role as a discoverer of new knowledge and as a large consumer in the energy sector, education communities have a significant role in food security research and as a consumer in its school lunch programs, dormitory, athletic facility and healthcare enterprises.  Accordingly — in much the same way we follow the US Census Bureau’s monthly construction activity report — we follow a data point provided by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) as one of our stars to steer by.

The World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates  is a monthly report published by the USDA that provides comprehensive forecast of supply and demand for major crops (global and United States) and livestock (U.S. only). The report provides an analysis of the fundamental condition of the agricultural commodity markets for the use of farmers, governments and other market participants.

Ghana’s Rabbit Industry

Like many folk traditions of saying “Rabbit, rabbit” to your colleagues on the first day of the month has an unclear origin and has several variations and interpretations.  We use it a reason to explore university research into food sources; the proper business of education communities everywhere.  In one version of the tradition, saying “Rabbit, rabbit” or “White rabbit” as the first words upon waking on the first day of the month is believed to bring good luck for the rest of that month. It is thought to ensure good fortune, happiness, and general positivity throughout the coming weeks.

The specific origins and reasons behind this tradition are difficult to trace, as superstitions often evolve and are passed down through generations. It’s worth noting that this practice is not universally known or followed, and its popularity may vary among different regions and communities.  Ultimately, the saying “Rabbit, rabbit” on the first day of the month is an example of a charming and whimsical superstition that some individuals enjoy participating in as a fun way to start the month on a positive note.
