The phrase “An army marches on its stomach” is often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte, but it has also been attributed to Frederick the Great. The phrase means that a military force can only advance as far as its logistics allow, and that it needs to be well-provisioned and supplied with good food to be effective. The concept is now known as Operational Reach.
