Yonsei University was established in 1885 by American Protestant missionaries. Theinstitution was originally named "Yonhi College" and aimed to provide Western-style education infused with Christian values. In 1915, Yonhi College merged with Severance Union Medical College, giving rise to Yonsei University. The name "Yonsei" signifies continuity and represents the third generation of Christian education in Korea. Over time, the university evolved into a fully dimensioned academic institution while maintaining its Christian heritage, contributing significantly to the Korea's intellectual and cultural development.
