Written in 1950 by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, inspired by the sound of Salvation Army bell ringers on city streets during the winter holidays, the song was originally performed in the 1951 film "The Lemon Drop Kid," starring Bob Hope and Marilyn Maxwell. Performed by the all-female a cappella group Vocal Point.
