Honey Fruit Spread

Breakfast in August asks for little more than fresh fruit and an open window. A peach, a handful of blueberries, a slice of melon or the first apple of the season carries with it the memory of warm fields, long daylight and patient cultivation. There is no need to improve upon such things. They arrive when they are ready, asking only to be noticed. Before the day's appointments and obligations begin, a bowl of seasonal fruit is a quiet reminder that nature keeps a calendar of its own, and seldom hurries to meet ours.
